The winery is located in the municipality of Jetzelsdorf near Haugsdorf in the north-west of the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Weinviertel. The foundation stone was laid by Hans Bauer Sr. in 1935 and the business was expanded by his son Hans Bauer Jr. Since the beginning of 2008, the business has been run by Christoph Bauer and his wife Heidi, the third generation of the family, after graduating from the viticulture school Klosterneuburg, completing internships in South Tyrol, South Africa and Australia and working for the wine trade WEIN & CO.

The innovative company was a pioneer in many areas. In 1993, the first single-varietal Zweigelt aged in barriques was bottled in the municipality. This was followed in 1997 by "Vintage", one of the first Austrian port-style wines. Finally, in 2004, the first plant with minimal pruning was introduced in the Pulkautal.
The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines in the Alte Haide, Bergsatz, Felderbergen, Galgenberg, Gerichtsberg, Haidsatzen, Hofweingarten, Straßhaide and Znaimer Haide vineyards on sandy, clay and loess soils with a relatively high lime content. They are 40% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Müller-Thurgau, Welschriesling, Neuburger, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc, and 60% with the red wine varieties Blauer Portugieser, Zweigelt, Blauburger, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir. The flagship variety Grüner Veltliner is cultivated with constant propagation of the best vines. Certified organic viticulture has been practised since 2015.
The wines are vinified according to the variety and vintage. Traditionally, the best red wines are fermented in open vats with manual immersion. Depending on the type of wine, ageing takes place in stainless steel tanks, in traditional large wooden barrels or in barriques. There is no filtration until bottling.
The premium wines include Weinviertel DAC (Grüner Veltliner), Grüner Veltliner Z'raft, as well as the red wines Zweigelt Reserve, Pinot Noir Gerichtsberg and Cabernet Merlot, which are matured in barriques. The winery also produces falsely-fermented sparkling wine, frizzante (semi-sparkling wine) and wine chocolate. The winery is a member of Weingüter Retzer Land.
