The winery is located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci (Livorno province) in the heart of Bolgheri in the Italian region of Tuscany. It was founded in 1954 by Emilio Fuselli, a farmer from the Marche region, through the purchase of land owned by Marquis Incisa della Rocchetta. At that time, it was mainly agriculture, but the first vineyards were planted. His sons Maurizio and Giancarlo also produced olive oil. Maurizio Fuselli then converted the farm to viticulture. In 2003, a newly built winery was put into operation. Today the winery is run by Maurizio and his sons Alessandro and Samuele Fuselli. Samuele is responsible for production in the vineyard and Alessandro for production in the cellar and foreign sales.
The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines in the Papeo, Tarabuso, Franchesato and Aldone sites. No grapes are bought in. The red wine varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot (with vines planted by Aldo Fuselli in 1954), Syrah and Petit Verdot are cultivated, as well as the white wine variety Vermentino(clones from Corsica, Sardinia, Tuscany). The vineyards are managed with pruning in winter, integrated pest control using a confusion method (pheromone trap) and yield reduction through thinning. The grapes are harvested in several rounds.
The product range includes various red wines and white wines IGT Toscana and DOC Bolgheri. They are vinified exclusively with single grape varieties. The premium wines of the house are the IGT Toscano red wines "Tarabuso" (Cabernet Sauvignon) and "Franchesato" (Cabernet Franc), which are fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged for 18 months in new French barrique barrels. The two most important wines or crus are the IGT Toscano red wines "Maurizio Fuselli" (Petit Verdot) and "Aldone" (Merlot). These are fermented for 20 to 25 days in new French barriques and the mash is blended by hand (délestage). Then they are aged in new French barriques for 18 months.
A "Nobilis - Muffato di Vermentino"(sweet wine made from noble rotten berries), a "Grappa del Marchesato" and a "Brandy del Marchesato"(brandy) are also produced. Around 150,000 bottles of wine are produced annually, 70% of which are marketed in Italy and "30" abroad in the European countries of Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Holland and Romania, as well as in Japan, Singapore, the USA and the Dominican Republic.
