2018 Merlot trocken, Burgenland, Austria

Firm, youthful, somewhat warm aroma of ripe, predominantly black berries with chocolaty wood spice, raisiny tones, a little coffee, tobacco, tomato paste and leathery, meaty nuances. Ripe, dense, juicy dark fruit, roasted, again chocolaty wood flavours with some coffee, crumbly-sandy tannins, persistent and powerful on the palate, noticeable but integrated alcohol, hints of smoke in the background, tomato paste, fleshy traces, a hint of herbs and paprika, with air also salt, very good, juicy and spicy finish. Needs to mature.
