The traditional winery is located in the community of Béblenheim in the French region of Alsace. It was already founded in 1795 by Jean-Martin Geyl. Since 1993, the winery has been managed by Jean-Christophe Bott, who has gained practical experience in wineries in France, Germany and the New World. The vineyards cover 20 hectares at an altitude of 220 to 270 metres above sea level. They are spread over a total of 80 plots in seven municipalities. These are the Alsace Grand Cru sites Furstentum, Mandelberg, Schlossberg, Schoenenbourg, Sonnenglanz and Sporen, as well as the Lieux dits Burgreben, Clos des Trois Chemins, Grafenreben, Kronenbourg and Schloesselreben. The white wine varieties Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Muscat Blanc, Riesling and Chasselas, as well as the red wine variety Pinot Noir are cultivated.

Domaine Bott-Geyl - Weingutsgebäude und Fasskeller

The vines are selected by mass selection and cultivated with a high planting density of between 5,500 and 7,800 vines per hectare. Cultivation is carried out according to the rules of Biodynamic viticulture, certified since 2002, with, for example, complete renunciation of fungicides, insecticides or weed-killers. Primarily, preventive measures are taken with the use of herbal tea (e.g. nettle), cow dung and cow horns meal. In winter, a short pruning is carried out to reduce the possible number of grapes on the vine. All processing is carried out according to minimalist rules with as few interventions as possible, in accordance with the principle that quality is created in the vineyard.

The main aim is to express the varietal aromas, the fruit and the terroir in the wines. After selective manual harvesting, the grapes are transported in 40 kg containers and gently processed in the cellar using the natural force of gravity. After gentle pressing, the musts are slowly fermented spontaneously with vineyard yeasts. The wines mature for several months to several years in stainless steel or barrique. The product range includes the lines Métiss (white wine cuvée), Lieux-dits, Grands-Crus, Eléments (varietal white wines), Galets Oligocène (red wine, barrique), Vandanges tardives(late harvest), Grains nobles(noble sweet wines), Jules Geyl (Pinot Blanc) and a Crémant.
