The family winery is located in the municipality of Schrattenberg in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Weinviertel(Austria). It is owned and managed by the Schwarz family. The vineyards cover 25 hectares of vineyards in the vineyards Alte Berge, Alte Breiten, Alte Zuckermandl, Antoniberg, Bründlberg, Gloria, Maierhofberg, Marktweg, Raistenberg, Satzen, Steingrube, Tennau and Zuckermandl. They are 75% planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Blauer Portugieser, Pinot Noir and Merlot, and 25% with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Gelber Muskateller, Grüner Veltliner, Gemischter Satz, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer and Welschriesling. The vineyards are cultivated according to the rules of organic viticulture certified by Lacon. Quality-enhancing measures in the vineyards include pruning, a cover crop between the rows of vines, careful foliage management and yield-reducing thinning. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are processed through a selective manual harvest in several rounds.
The cellar measures in a wine cellar equipped with the latest technology are based on the non-invasive principle of "as much as necessary, as little as possible". Depending on the desired wine type, the wines are aged in the traditional manner in stainless steel tanks or in large wooden barrels, and the premium wines are aged for at least 12 to mostly 18 months in small oak barrels (225-litre barriques, 228-litre pièces, 300-litre barrels). The premium wines include the five red wines "Zweigelt Premium", "Blaufränkisch Premium", "Pinot Noir Premium", "Cabernet Sauvignon Premium" and "Syrah Premium", the rosé wine "Rosé Premium", as well as the two white wines "Chardonnay Premium" and "Traminer Premium". The red wine cuvée "Grande Reserve" (the composition of the grape varieties varies from vintage to vintage; the best barrels of the winery are always used for this ultra-premium wine) forms the qualitative top of the range. In years with suitable weather conditions, noble sweet selections, berry sele ctions, dry berry selections and ice wines are also pressed. In addition, bottle-fermented sparkling wines, frizzante (semi-sparkling wine), noblebrandies (grape marc brand y and brandy), verjus (also as a foaming pétillant) and red grape juice from St. Laurent are produced.
