Description to Terre Alfieri DOCG
DOCG area for white wines and red wines in the Italian region of Piedmont. After the DOC classification in 2009, the high classification followed in 2020. It was named after the poet and playwright Vittorio Alfieri (1749-1803) from Asti. The zone covers 49 hectares of vines at 130 to 350 metres above sea level in the municipalities of Antignano, Celle Enomondo, Cisterna d'Asti, Revigliasco, San Damiano, San Martino Alfier and Tigliole in the province of Asti, and Castellinaldo, Govone, Magliano Alfieri and Priocca in the province of Cuneo. If the grapes come from classified vineyards, Vigna plus site can be indicated. The soils consist of marine sedimentary deposits (Asti sands).
The white wine Terre Alfieri Arneis ( also as Superiore) and the red wine Terre Alfieri Nebbiolo (also as Superiore and as Riserva) are pressed from at least 85% of the respective variety and a maximum of 15% of other authorised varieties.
The minimum alcohol content is 12% for Arneis; 12.5% for Arneis Superiore; 13% for Nebbiolo; and 13.5% for Nebbiolo Superiore and Riserva. The minimum ageing period is 4 months for Nebbiolo; 6 months for Arneis Superiore; 12 months for Nebbiolo Superiore, of which at least 6 in barrique; and 24 months for Nebbiolo Riservas, of which 12 in barrique.
