D.O. Cebreros

Description to D.O. Cebreros

The DO area for red, rosé and white wines is located in the Spanish province of Ávila in the south of the Castile-León region and is named after the municipality of the same name. The former country wine area was only classified in 2017. It borders on the two DO areas Vinos de Madrid(Madrid) and Méntrida(La Mancha). Together, these three DO areas form the Sierra de Gredos wine-growing area, which slopes down to the north towards the Alberche Valley and to the south towards the Tiétar Valley. The wines from here have been known since the 14th century. The vineyards cover 2,000 hectares of vines at 500 to 2,000 metres above sea level on granite and slate soils. The vines are on average 60 to 70 years old. The climate is continental-Mediterranean with cold, snowy winters and warm, dry summers. The red and rosé wines are blended from Garnacha Tinta (up to 95%), Garnacha Tintorera and Tempranillo. The white wines are produced from 100% Albillo Real. The maximum production is 6,000 kg/ha and the maximum yield is 42 hl/ha.
