Description to P.D.O. Archanes (O.P.A.P.) / Αρχάνες
Appellation (also Arhanes) in the district of Iraklio on the Greek island of Crete. Archanes is one of the island's four POP areas and borders the POP area of Peza to the east and the POP area of Dafnes to the west. To the north is the archaeological site of Knossos, where one of the oldest Minoan wine presses was found during excavations. The dark-coloured and alcohol-rich red wine with ageing potential is made from the two indigenous grape varieties Kotsifali and Mandilaria. It is vinified dry.
