Duché d'Uzès AOC

Description to Duché d'Uzès AOC

Appellation for white, rosé and red wines in the southwest of the French wine-growing region of Rhône. The name refers to the duchy of Uzès, which existed until the French Revolution. The former IGP area was classified as AOC in 2012. The vineyards cover almost 300 hectares of vines on soils of sandstone, marl, pebble and limestone. They extend over 77 communes in the Département Gard. Red wines and rosés are blended from the main varieties Grenache Noir (Garnacha Tinta) and Syrah, as well as Carignan Noir (Mazuelo), Cinsaut and Mourvèdre (Monastrell). The white wines are made from any blend of the main varieties Grenache Blanc (Garnacha Blanca) and Viognier, as well as Marsanne, Roussanne, Vermentino, Clairette and Ugni Blanc (Trebbiano Toscano).
