Description to Controguerra DOC
DOC area for red, rosé and white wines in the Italian region of Abruzzo. The zone includes parts of the municipalities of Ancarano, Colonnella, Controguerra, Corropoli and Torano Nuovo in the province of Teramo. The Bianco is blended from Trebbiano Toscano and/or Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (50%), Passerina (10%) and other authorised varieties (max. 40%). Passito Bianco is produced in any mixture of Trebbiano Toscano, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Malvasia Bianca di Candia and Passerina (60%) and other authorised varieties (max. 40%). Rosso (also as Novello and Riserva) and Rosato are produced from Montepulciano (zum. 70%) and other authorised varieties (max. 30%). Passito Rosso is produced from Montepulciano (zum. 70%) and other authorised varieties (max. 30%). Both Passito wines, with 35 months aging, may additionally state "Annoso" on the label.
The pure variety wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, 15% may be other approved varieties. These are the white wines Chardonnay, Passerina and Pecorino, and the red wines Cabernet(Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon) and Merlot. Spumante Metodo Classico and Spumante Metodo Classico are blended from Trebbiano Toscano and/or Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (60%), Chardonnay and/or Verdicchio Bianco and/or Pecorino (30%), and other authorised varieties (max. 10%). If the grapes come from classified vineyards, the label may indicate Vigna followed by the name of the vineyard.
