Description to Alcamo (Bianco di Alcamo) DOC
DOC area for red wines, rosé wines and white wines in the Italian region or the island of Sicily. The zone includes the municipalities of Alcamo, Calatafimi, Castellammare del Golfo and Gibellina in the province of Trapani, and Balestrate, Camporeale, Monreale, Partinico, San Cipirello and San Giuseppe Jato in the province of Palermo.
The pure varietal wines must contain at least 85% of the respective variety, a maximum of 15% can also be other approved varieties. The white wines are Ansonica(Inzolia), Catarratto Bianco, Chardonnay, Grecanico(Garganega), Grillo, Müller-Thurgau and Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc). The red wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Calabrese(Nero d'Avola), Merlot and Syrah.
The Bianco (also known as Vendemmia tardiva and Spumante) is blended from Catarratto Bianco (minimum 60%), as well as in any mixture or use of the varieties Ansonica, Grecanico, Grillo, Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau and Sauvignon (maximum 40%), as well as other authorised varieties (maximum 20%). The Bianco Classico is pressed in any mixture of the Catarratto varieties Catarratto Bianco Comune and/or Catarratto Bianco Lucido (at least 80%), as well as other approved varieties (maximum 20%).
The Rosso (also known as Novello and Riserva) is produced from Calabrese (zum. 60%), as well as in any mixture of Frappato, Perricone, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Syrah (max. 40%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 10%). The Rosato (also as Spumante) is blended in any mixture or use of Nerello Mascalese, Calabrese, Frappato, Perricone, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Syrah.
