2020 Ingelheim Burgberg Spätburgunder trocken, Rheinhessen, Germany

Slightly smoky, bacony and mushroomy aroma of partly sour red and a little black berries with vegetal notes and a hint of lemon pepper. Slightly warm, rather soft, somewhat marmalade-like, again predominantly red fruit, crumbly-sandy tannin, smoky notes, a little fruit tea on the palate, nutty tones and a hint of cocoa, very slightly drying, good finish with ashy traces. Promised more a year ago than it can deliver today.

Editor note: Smoky and finely vegetal, also a hint of herbal nose with fresh red and a little black berry aromas, hints of cherries and clearly floral aromas. Clear, fresh, tangy fruit with nutty, somewhat smoky, herbal and hints of peppery flavours, good persistence, slightly bitter-chocolatey wood notes, also salt in the background, very good, quite firm, juicy, spicy and smoky finish.
