The winery is located in the municipality of Gamlitz-Sernau in the Austrian wine-growing region of Southern Styria. The tarditiosn rich winery has been family-owned since 1887 and is managed by Willi and Maria Sattler. Senior Wilhelm Sattler was considered a pioneer of dry wine growing in Styria, for which he was awarded the Golden Badge of Honour of the Province. Since the 2014 vintage, son Andreas has been the main manager of the winery. The second oldest son Andreas has been contributing his ideas and drive to the winery since 2018 and is primarily responsible for the vineyards. In the courtyard area there is a two-cap restaurant and a hotel with vineyard pool, which are managed by Willis brother Hannes Sattler.
The estate's own vineyards comprise 35 hectares of vines in the Kranachberg (Große STK-Ried), Pfarrweingarten (Große STK-Ried), Sernauberg (Erste STK-Ried) and Kapellenweingarten (Chapel vineyards) located in Monpopl. These are extreme steep slopes with a gradient of up to 70% at 400 to 450 metres above sea level. They are planted to 95% with the white wine varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Morillon(Chardonnay), Gelber Muskateller, Weißburgunder(Pinot Blanc), Grauburgunder(Pinot Gris) and Welschriesling, the rest with the red wine variety Blauburgunder(Pinot Noir). The cultivation is carried out according to the guidelines of organic viticulture. Since the 2016 vintage, the entire operation has been certified organic(Lacon). Quality criteria are, besides the old vines, above all yield reduction and exclusively manual harvesting into small boxes
The wines are 100& subject to the guidelines of the South Styrian DAC and are produced in the lines of regional wine (South Styria), local wine (Gamlitz and Eichberg) and Riedenwein (Kranachberg, Pfarrweingarten, Sernauberg, Kapellenweingarten). A speciality are large-sized bottles(Magnum, Doppelmagnum, Salmanazar, Balthazar, Nebukadnezar, Melchior) with Rieden wines of special vintages. We also produce noble brandies (with for example 30-year-old brandy) and vinegar. The winery is a member of the associations Premium Estates of Austria, Styrian Terroir & Classic Wineries and Wine Styria.
