The "Salzl Seewinkelhof" winery is located in the municipality of Illmitz in the Neusiedlersee
wine-growing region of Burgenland (Austria). The Salzl family, rich in tradition, has been cultivating wine since 1840. A guesthouse is attached. Since 1985, the family business has been run by Josef Salzl, who concentrated on red wines and began vinification in barriques in 1990. His son Christoph graduated from the commercial academy for viticulture and agricultural management and is responsible for sales and cellar work. Three generations work in the winery. In 2009, a new, technically and architecturally exceptional winery was opened in the middle of the vineyards, as indicated by the address "Zwischen den Reben" (Between the Vines).
The company's own vineyards cover 20 hectares in the Lüss, Martenhof, Römerstein and Sandriegel vineyards. Grapes are supplied by contract winegrowers with a total of 60 hectares. We process 75% of the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Blaufränkisch and Syrah and 25% of the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, Bouvier and Sämling 88. Only healthy, fully ripe grapes are processed through selective harvesting
The white wines and certain red wines are matured classically in steel tanks. Special red wines mature for different lengths of time up to 24 months in new barriques. The wide range of products includes the red wine Neusiedlersee DAC
(Zweigelt), the white wine "New Style" (Chardonnay), as well as the two red wine cuvées "Pannoterra" (Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and "3-5-8 Premium" (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon). In years with suitable weather conditions, sweet wines such as Beerenauslese
are also pressed. A frizzante
(sparkling wine) is also produced. About one third of the production is exported to 17 countries
