2001 Riesling trocken Nr. 1, Rheinhessen, Germany

Extremely intense, deep, minerally nose with citrus fruits, apricots, peaches, fine herbs and a bit of blackcurrant. Tightly woven, bone-dry fruit, concentrated, tremendously ripe acidity. Gripping on the palate, firm mineral backbone, piquant and profound, very closed at this stage and almost inaccessible, extremely persistent on the palate, piquant, has the structure of a nuclear fallout shelter, enormous length. This is a wine for dedicated Riesling purists. This will not show its best form before 2005, and will most likely score a point or two higher then.
