About Weingut Neumer

One of the best producers of the region The wines keep constant high level and are usually the best in their respective category in the area.

The winery is located in the municipality of Uelversheim (Nierstein area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. It was founded in 1548 by Balthasar Neumer through the purchase of acreage and vineyards from neighbouring monasteries and the Counts of Leiningen. It was shaped into its present form by Jakob Neumer III (1876-1960). His son Walter Jakob Neumer († 2005) took over the wine and arable farming business after returning home from the Second World War (1939-1945). His daughter Lucia, née Neumer, and her husband Hubertus Weinmann took over the management in 1991. Since 2011, the eldest son Theo has been responsible as cellar master.

Vineyards & grape varieties

The vineyards cover 60 hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Aulenberg and Tafelstein (Uelversheim), Siliusbrunnen and Tafelstein (Dienheim), Ölberg and Herrgottspfad (Gau-Odernheim), as well as Schloß (Herrnsheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Silvaner, Huxelrebe and Gewürztraminer, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir and Dornfelder.

Cultivation

The vineyards have been cultivated according to the rules of organic viticulture and ECOVIN since 1991. The conversion to biodynamic cultivation in accordance with DEMETER rules was completed in 2018. Preparations made from cattle horns, cow dung and quartz in homeopathic doses play a central role in soil vitality. This also includes cover crop the rows of vines, as well as the avoidance of artificial fertilisers and synthetic chemical pesticides of all kinds. The entire production follows the principles of ecological recycling management.

Product range

All wines are marketed under the brand name "Weinmann by Neumer". Since the 2012 harvest, all wines and sparkling wines have been vegan and labelled with the Vegan Society mark. The wines are fermented chilled in stainless steel tanks and then matured in large wooden barrels or barriques. Non-alcoholic wine and Secco are also produced. Every year, 90,000 cases of wine are marketed.
