2016 Appenheim Eselspfad Weißburgunder trocken, Rheinhessen, Germany

Somewhat smoky and nutty, woody-spicy pome fruit and citrus aroma with a hint of white pepper and vegetable notes. Clear, taut, finely juicy, tart fruit, nutty and slightly tobacco wood flavours, very fine acidity, delicate grip, fresh butter on the palate, good persistence, salt and chalk in the background, hints of smoke and nougat, good substance and persistence, has polish, very good finish.

Editor note: Tighter and deeper, more vegetal, yeasty and a bit smoky, yet a little reductive scent with light yellow-fruity and nutty aromas, a little mushroom, hint of roast, legumes, green bacon and clear minerality. Firm and tart in the mouth, cool fruit with yeasty, light nutty and slightly smoky notes, lively acidity, fresh vegetal and delicate greasy notes, persistent and grippy on the palate, clear, again light mineral notes, certain depth, still completely undeveloped, very good, firm, tart finish with cool juice and lots of bite. Must ripen.
