The winery is located in the municipality of Gols in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). The traditional family has been growing wine since 1571. Worth mentioning is the "Günterkeller", which was dug into a loess slope in 1756, the year Mozart was born. The cellar, which is 52 metres long, is 12 metres underground. Senior Georg Stiegelmar is considered the doyen and pioneer of the Austrian wine scene. At the International Wine & Spirit Competition in London he was awarded "Winemaker of the Year 1995" and the prize was handed over personally by the then President Robert Mondavi (1913-2008).
Today the winery is managed by Axel and his wife Herta. The next generation, the sons Gregor and Philipp, are already involved. The name Juris was chosen to distinguish them. It is derived from the first name Georg or Gregor (dialect "Juri") of many male members of the Stiegelmar family. The vineyards comprise 20 hectares of vineyards in the Altenberg, Breitenteil and Hochreit areas. They are 80% with the red wine varieties St. Laurent,Pinot Noir (Blauburgunder), BlaufränkischZweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as 20% of the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Gewürztraminer and Muscat Ottonel.
The transport of grape - mash - must - wine is mainly achieved by gravity. To this end, four different processing levels were placed on top of each other in a tower. The winery is one of the pioneers in barrique ageing, producing its first wine in 1983. The wines are produced in the two lines "GOLSER" (vines under 15 years old, 6 to 12 months in used wooden barrels) and "Reserve" (vines at least 20 years old, 18 to 24 months in barrique). Premium wines are Ina'mera Reserve (Blaufränkisch, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon), Tricata (Blaufränkisch), St. Georg Reserve (St. Laurent, Blauburgunder), St. Laurent Reserve and Chardonnay Reserve. Around 120,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Sweet wines(Trockenbeerenauslese, Strohwein), noble brandies(marc, yeast, wine) and bottle-fermented sparkling wine are also produced. The winery is a member of Renommierte Weingüter Burgenland RWB.
