The winery is located in the municipality of Herbolzheim-Tutschfelden (Breisgau area) in the German growing region of Baden
. The story began in 1999 with Horst Holub's 50th birthday, on which occasion he was given an area of seven ares of Pinot Noir as a gift; the first harvest yielded a single barrique barrel. Every year a few plots of land were added, so that the area under vines now amounts to 1.2 hectares. These are divided into the individual sites Bienenberg
(Malterdingen), Herrenberg (Nordweiler), Kaiserberg (Herbolzheim) and Steinhalde (Amoltern). These are planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. The quality criteria in the vineyard are natural greening
, intensive leaf care, yield reduction and manual harvesting at the optimal time. The Pinot Blancs are aged partly in steel tanks and partly after a BSA eight months in barrique, the Pinot Gris after a BSA 12 months in barrique. The Pinot Noirs mature after a BSA for 18 months in new barriques.
