The winery is located in the municipality of Alzenau-Michelbach (Mainviereck area) in the German wine-growing region of Franconia. It was founded in 1924 by the brothers Josef and Richard Höfler, who acquired fallow vineyards and planted them with vines. Under the following generation, Irmgard and Karl Höfler, the area under cultivation increased. In addition, a new farm with a wine cellar and farm buildings was built, and marketing was gradually switched from bulk wine to bottling. Since 1984, the winery has been run by Edeltraut and Bernd Höfler. The vineyards cover 7.2 hectares in the single vineyard sites Reuschberg (Hörstein), as well as Apostelgarten (listed since 1985) and Steinberg (Michelbach). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (35%), Müller-Thurgau (30%), Silvaner, Rieslaner, Bacchus and Pinot Blanc (together 15%), as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Black Riesling and Domina (together 20%). The white wines are vinified reductively in steel tanks. The red wines mature in large wooden barrels or in barriques. In suitable years, noble sweet Beerenauslese wines and ice wines are also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, noble brandies (marc, wine, berries, fruit) and liqueurs are also produced. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates)
