The winery is located on a hill in the municipality of Schönberg in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Kamptal. The traditional family has been growing grapes here for many generations. Today, after years of apprenticeship with Franz Hirtzberger (Spitz/Donau) and Ernst Triebaumer (Rust), the winery is run by Matthias Hager. The restaurant "Weinbeisserei" is run by Hermann Hager. The vineyards cover 14 hectares of vineyards in the Hiesberg, Schönberg and Seeberg vineyards. They are 70% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Gelber Muskateller, Frühroter Veltliner, Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Sauvignon Blanc, and 30% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir), Blauburger and St. Laur ent. Some of them are also cultivated as a " Gemischter Satz ". For a long time now, the vineyards have been cultivated organically and, since the 2010 vintage, according to certified biodynamic guidelines.
The wines are produced in two lines. The "Blue Line" (after the element water = cool refreshment) includes young, fresh, sparkling and fruity white wines, but also the red wine cuvée Picanto, which should be drunk young. The "brown line" (according to the element earth = earthiness and substance) includes full-bodied, long-lived wines with site and vintage typicity. They are vinified, for example, with long macerations and long lees ageing. Depending on the wine type, they are matured in stainless steel tanks, large wooden barrels or in barriques. Various Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners are also produced as Kamptal DAC or Kamptal DAC Reserve. In years with suitable weather conditions, ice wines (white and red) are also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, brandies, grape juices, verjus, vinegar and grape seed oil are also produced.
