The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Gumpoldskirchen in the heart of the winegrowing region Thermenregion (Lower Austria). Viticulture has been practised by the Krug family in Gumpoldskirchen since 1746, which is documented in writing in the land register introduced under Maria Theresa (1717-1780). The "Altes Zechhaus" wine tavern first opened its doors in 1970. In 1998, the wine cellar was moved out and a modern, functional winery was built in the middle of the vineyards. The vineyards cover 35 hectares in the Asslatz, Doctnerin, Eichkogel, Hausberg, Katzbühel, Kreuzweingarten, Rasslerin and Sonnberg vineyards. They are 60% planted with the white wine varieties Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Rotgipfler, Zierfandler, Grüner Veltliner, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, and 40% with the red wine varieties Merlot, Zweigelt, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are cultivated according to the guidelines of natural viticulture

Krug Gustav - Altes Zechhaus

Only healthy and physiologically ripe grapes are selected for processing. The red wines mature for at least 12 months in barrique barrels before they are marketed. The white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks or in traditional large wooden barrels. The premium wines of the house are the white wines Kreuzweingarten (Rotgipfler, Zierfandler), Die Vollendung (Rotgipfler), Die weiße Versuchung (Rotgipfler) and Chardonnay Reserve, as well as the red wines "Cuvée Classic" (Zweigelt, Merlot) and Eichkogel Reserve (Zweigelt). The new product line "Grand Reserve" comprises cuvées from three grape varieties that are aged in 400-litre barrique barrels. Around 250,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Spumante and various noble brandies (marc, cigars) are also produced.
