2012 Spätburgunder Grand Duc, Ahr, Germany

Clear aroma of red and black berries with moderate barrel notes, a hint of charcoal and leathery and tobacco traces. Tart fruit with restrained malty flavours and some smoky wood, again a hint of charcoal, dried-vegetable to tobacco nuances, good substance and persistence, some roast, a little iron and iodine, salt in the background, has power and at the same time a certain polish, minty-ethereal nuances in the background, very good, quite juicy finish, again with partly ethereal spice. Developed better than expected.
