About Tiefenbrunner Schlosskellerei Turmhof

The "Schlosskellerei Turmhof Tiefenbrunner" winery is located in Entiklar, a fraction of the municipality of Kurtatsch (Cortaccia) in the South Tyrolean lowlands (province of Bolzano) in the Italian wine-growing region of South Tyrol ( Trentino-South Tyrol region). The origins of the traditional winery go back to the documented mention of the "Linticlar Estate" in 1225. After 1675, the owners of the estate changed several times until the estate was finally given its present name, Tiefenbrunner. In 1848, the estate began to operate as a commercial winery and to purchase grapes from contract winegrowers. The opening of a Buschenschank in 1968, today the popular "Bistro Castel Turmhof", initiated the bottling of the wine. Today, the winery is run by the fifth generation, Sabine and Christof Tiefenbrunner with their two children Anna and Johannes. Oenologist Stephan Rohregger is currently steering the fortunes in the cellar. It is also worth mentioning that since 1910, the electricity needs have been covered by renewable energy from their own hydroelectric power plant.

Tiefenbrunner - Weingutsgebäude inmitten von Weinbergen

The Tiefenbrunner family's vineyards cover 25 hectares and range from 220 to 1,000 metres above sea level. In addition, grapes from a total of 45 hectares are brought in from winegrowers in the nearby surroundings. The white wine varieties Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris), Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau and Goldmuskateller, as well as the red wine varieties Vernatsch, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Lagrein, Pinot Noir and Rosenmuskateller are processed. The construction of new vineyards is carried out taking into account the advantages of sites and grape varieties. Pruning is done according to the Simonit & Sirch method, which allows for controlled growth. As far as weather conditions allow, natural plant protection is practised in a targeted manner.

The wines are offered in the following product lines: Selection VIGNA (traditional small vineyards, accurate ageing), Selection LINTICLARUS (grapes from the best vineyards, Riservas), Selection TURMHOF (selected hillside vineyards, partly wood ageing) and Classic MERUS (traditional ageing, varietal character). The grapes are always crushed and fermented in tulip-shaped concrete tanks at low temperatures. Depending on the wine type and quality line, the young wines are stored in concrete barrels, wooden barrels or barriques until they reach optimal maturity. Full-bodied red wines and some white wines are aged for 9 to 12 months in barrique. The Linticlarus wines also mature in the bottle for up to one year.

South Tyrolean DOC wines include the premium products FELDMARSCHALL VON FENNER Müller-Thurgau (max. 30 hl/ha yield), TOREN Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva (30 hl/ha), AU Chardonnay Riserva (35-45 hl/ha), TURMHOF Sauvignon Blanc (45-55 hl/ha) and LINTICLARUS Lagrein Riserva (30-50 hl/ha). The total annual production is about 750,000 bottles, of which about 75% are white wines. The most important export countries for the wines are Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and overseas the USA, Canada and Australia. The winery is a member of the association "Konsortium Südtiroler Wein".
