The winery is located in the municipality of Andau in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). It was founded in 1986 by Ökonomierat Johann Scheiblhofer (Big John), who converted the farm to viticulture as his main occupation. It was taken over by his son Erich Scheiblhofer in 2000 after practical experience in Australia and California). The farm is one of the Austrian pioneers in the field of sustainability and stands out for its energy self-sufficient wine production. Among other things, this is made possible by the photovoltaic system installed on the roofs of the company buildings. The Scheiblhofer Winery's "Hall of Legends" with its huge sound and lighting system serves as an exclusive event hall for business events and company celebrations. Guest rooms are also available for rent. On the Andreasberg in Andau there is an officially classified mountain vineyard as well as an educational wine trail with all of Austria's grape varieties. A lookout tower offers distant views to the Schneeberg and deep into Hungary.

Scheiblhofer - Gebäude

The estate's own vineyards cover a total of 85 hectares. However, grapes from the Burgenland wine-growing regions of Leithaberg, Mittelburgenland and Neusiedlersee are also processed. These include, for example, the communities and vineyards of Rieden Andau (Prädium), Breitenbrunn (Rosenberg), Großhöflein (Point), Halbturn (Kaiserberg), Horitschon (Dürrau), Jois (Jungenberg), Kleinhöflein (Tatschler), Mönchhof (Satz), Neckenmarkt (Hussy), Pamhagen (Lerchenfeld-Wörthäcker), Rust (Alter Umriss), St. Georgen (Krainer), Tadten (Oberzick) and Winden (Alterberg). They are 75% planted with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz (Syrah), and 25% with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Bouvier, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller and Traminer. Great importance is attached to sustainability; the entire energy self-sufficient production is carried out according to the certified rules of Nachhaltig Austria. The use of glyphosate is voluntarily avoided. Yields are rigorously limited.

Weingut Scheiblhofer - Betriebsgebäufe Andau

The large product range includes wines in all quality levels. Most of the white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, but some are also matured in barrique barrels. The red wines undergo malolactic fermentation and are then matured in barrique barrels made of French Allier or American oak. The maturation period of the high qualities is around 18 months. After bottling, the wines are individually stored at the optimal temperature. Among the premium wines of the house are the red wine cuvées "Big John" (60% Zweigelt, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Pinot Noir) and "The Legends" (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). Frizzante and chocolate are also produced.
