The winery is located in the municipality of
Gols in the Burgenland wine-growing region of
Neusiedlersee (Austria). The history of the Bernthaler family, rich in tradition, can be traced back to 1755, where it is mentioned in the local chronicle as owning 74 pounds of vineyards. The business is run by Helmut (cellar) and Herbert Bernthaler (vineyard). The vineyards cover eight hectares of vineyards on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl in the
Altenberg, Eroff, Langenacker, Neufeld,
Ungerberg, Zwerg and Zwickel vineyards. They are planted with the white wine varieties Chardonnay, Welschriesling, Neuburger, Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Blauburger
The vineyards are cultivated according to the guidelines of
organic viticulture. Since the 2007 vintage, certification has been checked annually by
Bio Austria. The aim is to produce independent, terroir-based
organic wines of international orientation with Austrian roots. They are marketed in four lines. These are the "young wines" with juvenile fruit, the "classic wines" traditionally matured in tanks (white and sweet wines) or large wooden barrels (red wines), the "barrique wines" matured in small barrels (oak, chestnut, acacia) for 10 to 21 months, and the "site wines" produced in limited quantities from selected individual sites. Around 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually
