Valcalepio DOC |
Description to Valcalepio DOC
DOC area for red and white wines in the Italian region of Lombardy. The name means "Valley of Calepio" (here the Conte Calepio once had possessions). The zone includes the municipalities of Carobbio degli Angeli, Cenate Sotto, Credaro, Entratico, Gandosso, Ranica, San Paolo d'Argon, Torre de' Roveri, Villa di Serio and Villongo, as well as parts of 41 municipalities to the west of Lake Iseo in the Calepio Valley in the province of Bergamo. Additional geographical indications are allowed for the Moscato Passito, which are Gandosso, Grumello del Monte, Cenate Sotto, Torre de' Roveri, Albano Sant'Alessandro and Carobbio degli Angeli.
The dry Bianco is made from Pinot Bianco = Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay (55-80%), and Pinot Grigio = Pinot Gris (20-45%). The dry Rosso is produced from Merlot (40-75%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25-60%). With an aging of three years it may call itself Riserva. The sweet Moscato Passito is produced from dried grapes of the Moscato di Scanzo variety (a descendant of Muscat Blanc).
