Description to Menfi DOC
DOC area for red wines, rosé wines and white wines in the Italian region or the island of Sicily The zone includes the municipalities of Menfi, Sambuca di Sicilia and Sciacca in the province of Agrigento, and the municipality of Castelvetrano in the province of Trapani. The vineyards cover about 280 hectares. In 2014 there were extensive changes with many new varieties and types of wine. In addition, the Bonera and Feudo dei Fiori subzones were abandoned.
The pure white wines (some of which are also available as Superiore and Spumante) must be made from at least 85% of the respective variety as well as other approved varieties (max. 15%). These are Ansonica(Inzolia), Catarratto Bianco Lucido, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Damaschino, Fiano, Grecanico(Garganega), Grillo, Moscato Bianco(Muscat Blanc), Pinot Grigio(Pinot Gris), Sauvignon(Sauvignon Blanc), Vermentino and Viognier. Cuvées can also be made from any two varieties (max. 85% of the first and 15% of the second). The Bianco (also known as Vendemmia tardiva, Passito and Spumante) is blended from Ansonica (zum. 60%), Catarratto Bianco Lucido, Chardonnay, Grecanico and/or Grillo, as well as other approved varieties.

These are Aglianico, Alicante(Grenache Noir), Alicante Bouchet(Alicante Henri Bouschet), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Frappato, Merlot, Nerello Mascalese, Nero d'Avola/Calabrese, Perricone, Petit Verdot, Pinot Nero(Pinot Noir) and Syrah. Cuvées can also be produced from any two varieties (max. 85% of the first and 15% of the second). The wine types Rosso (also as Passito) and Rosato are blended from Alicante (zum. 60%), Alicante Bouchet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nerello Mascalese, Perricone and/or Syrah. There is also a Riserva from Rosso, as well as the pure wines from Nero d'Avola, Perricone and Syrah.
