2020 Amoltern Steinhalde Spätburgunder trocken *** R, Baden, Germany

Firm and tart, deep, dark, somewhat smoky, clearly ethereal, reminiscent of juniper and mint oil scent of ripe black and a little red berries with cherry notes and floral aromas. Ripe, tart, relatively dark fruit, some acid bite and at first still a little drying, then increasingly fine tannin, smoky wood notes, herbs and salt in the background, almondy-nutty tones, a little chocolate, peppery and juniper notes, noticeable but integrated alcohol, very good, tart, again ethereal and smoky finish again with salt. Picks up over days, becomes more and more refined and complex.
