2020 Westhofen Brunnenhäuschen Riesling Grosses Gewächs trocken "Abts E®", Rheinhessen, Germany

Deep, tart and above all initially rather cool, very mineral bouquet with fine yellow-fruity aromas, increasing herbal tones, a hint of fennel and dried floral nuances. Ripe, firm, tart-juicy, again rather cool fruit, herbal tones and enormous salty-chalky minerality, floral nuances, noticeable grip of ripe, crumbly tannin, fresh citrus tones, some yellow spice in the background, deep, dense and persistent on the palate, distinctly firm core, appears completely dry, certain power and at the same time elegance, grabs hold, long, firm, again intensely mineral, also somewhat smoky and nutty finish with very fine phenolic grip. In an irresistible first phase of enjoyment, which one might not actually call a "fruit phase" due to this tart, gripping, mineral-spicy style.
