The winery is located in the community of Burrweiler (area Südliche Weinstraße) in the German wine-growing region Pfalz
. It was founded in 1960 by Elisabeth and Herbert Meßmer with the purchase of a traditional estate. In 1984 the eldest son Gregor and his wife Sieglinde Meßmer joined the family winery. For some years now, the second oldest son Martin has also been a partner in the winery, where he is involved in marketing, sales and distribution. The motto is "Striving for the highest quality". The vineyards cover 35 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Altenforst, Schäwer
and Schlossgarten (Burrweiler), as well as Michelsberg (Weyher). About two thirds of them are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (40%), Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Rieslaner, Gewürztraminer and Muscatel, and one third with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We consistently practise environmentally friendly viticulture, for example, without the use of herbicides
. Depending on the grape variety, the wines are matured in steel tanks, large wooden barrels or barriques. The winery is a member of the VDP
(Verband deutscher Prädikatsweingüter).
