About Weingut Georg Jakob Becker

The winery is located in the municipality of Mommenheim ( Nierstein area) in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. The winery was first mentioned around 1800. In the 1960s, Georg Jakob Becker turned the mixed agricultural business into a pure winegrowing business. His son Rainer continued the wine-growing tradition and at the same time devoted himself to golf as co-founder and partner of an 18-hole championship golf course in Mommenheim. The connection between wine and golf is also documented on the bottle label. Since 2010, the winery has been run by Tobias Becker, a son who is trained as a technician for viticulture and oenology.

The vineyards cover 15 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Kloppenberg, Silbergrube (Mommenheim), Hohberg, Ölgild, Königstuhl (Lörzweil), Gottesgarten, Osterberg (Selzen), Bergpfad (Friesenheim), Kranzberg (Dalheim), as well as Mönchbäumchen and Pilgerweg (Zornheim). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Grüner Veltliner, Huxelrebe and Müller-Thurgau, as well as with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Cabernet Cubin, Cabernet Dorio, Cabernet Dorsa, Dornfelder, Acolon, Merlot and St. Laurent. Some of the vines are extremely old. Some even date back to 1883. A limited red wine cuvée is pressed from this rarity with a very low yield.

The vineyards are cultivated according to environmentally friendly criteria. The wines are partly fermented spontaneously. The red wines are fermented with longer maceration periods and mature in large wooden barrels and/or barrique. The white wines are aged for a long time on the fine lees in steel tanks. The premium wines include a Riesling with spontaneous fermentation aromas and a Spätburgunder Auslese matured in wooden barrels and barriques. About 10% of the production is exported, mainly to the Netherlands.
