2014 Schweigen Pinot Noir VDP.Ortswein trocken, Pfalz, Germany

Firm nose, light toasted notes, hint of tobacco, ripe red and a few black berriews, dried flowers, meaty traces, mineral notes. Firm, slightly smoky fruit on the palate, firm tannins, still very slightly astringent, light acid bite, full-body, good substance, peppery traces, hint of tobacco and dried herbs in the background, earthy and salty mineral notes in the background, hint of bacon and mushrooms, quite complex, good depth, very good, fairly firm finish. Needs time to mature.

Editor note: Youthful nose, touch of fresh butter, ripe red and some black berries, elegant peppery spice, hint of soup greens, dried flowers and mushrooms. Fairly firm, youthful, tart fruit on the palate, noticeable acid bite, firm, fine, slightly astringent tannins, salty mineral notes, hint of bacon, spices and dried hers, persistent, full-bodied, also has some bite and depth, still young, hint of citrus fruit in the background, cool mineral notes, prominent caraway seed on a good to very good firm finish. Still needs some time to mature.
