2012 Schweigen Sonnenberg Spätburgunder trocken Grosses Gewächs "Kammerberg", Pfalz, Germany

Clear, firm, polished nose, black and red berries, moderate, slightly smoky barrel notes, nutty traces and a hint of tobacco. Firm, tart, juicy, ripe fruit, smoky, nutty and roasted wood flavours, a certain acid bite, quite present, crumbly-sandy tannins, persistent and quite dense on the palate, chalky-salty minerality, certain depth, noble bitter chocolate, a little Havana tobacco, very good, firm, tart finish with ripe dark juice and again smoky and bitter chocolate wood. Has clearly developed to its advantage.

Editor note: Fairly open nose, light vegetal and earthy notes, touch of dried flowers, restrained red and black berries, tarry traces, herbaceous notes and rubber. Fairly cool, restrained, tart fruit on the palate, still slightly muted and unapproachable, earthy notes and some oak, herbaceous traces in the background, hint of tobacco and salt, good substance and persistence, slightly noticeable warm alcohol, but also has cool elements, still quite brittle, toasted notes and some ash on a good to very good finish.
