The winery "Sanitätsrat Dr. Hermann" is located in the municipality of Ürzig (Bernkastel area) in the German Mosel
wine growing region. Wine growing has been in the family for several centuries. Today's winery was established in 1967 by way of the division of the estate of Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben
. The production facility was moved from Ürzig to Erden with the construction of a new cellar. Since 1974 the estate has been managed by Rudi Hermann, who has been supported in the vineyard and especially in the cellar by his son Christian since 2000. The vineyards cover 6.3 hectares of vines in the locations Herrenberg
(Lösnich), and Rosenberg (Kinheim). In the vineyard, great importance is attached to nature-orientated care and selective harvesting in several stages by hand. After a gentle press and a long fermentation process of six to 12 weeks in stainless steel tanks, the wines mature on the without contact with oxygen. In suitable years also high Prädikat wines are produced. Among the top wines are the wines from the Treppchen and Würzgarten sites, which are pressed from Riesling vines with true roots. The others are mostly marketed as "Dr. Hermann Gutsriesling". About 80% of the production volume is exported, mainly to the USA, Japan and Great Britain.
