The traditional winery is located in the municipality of Rüdesheim in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. Friedrich Nägler was already registered as the owner of vineyards in the oldest Rüdesheim stock book in 1826. Today, the business is run by the sixth generation of the family, Dipl. Ing. Tilbert Nägler. After his training as a graduate engineer in viticulture and oenology at the Geisenheim Teaching and Research Institute, he spent six years as farm manager at Schloss Reinhartshausen in Erbach and then four years as farm manager and cellar master at the Schloss Westerhaus winery in Ingelheim. The Straußwirtschaft can also host company and family celebrations in closed company.
The vineyards cover 8.5 hectares in the Rüdesheim vineyards Berg Roseneck, Berg Rottland, Berg Schlossberg, Bischofsberg and Drachenstein. They are planted with 90% Riesling and 10% Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. The oldest vineyards date back to 1974. The vines are cultivated in an environmentally friendly, natural way with cover crop, natural fertilisation and gentle pest control. The yield is limited to a maximum of 55 hl/ha through appropriate pruning.
Only physiologically ripe grapes are harvested by hand. After gentle pressing, the wines are carefully aged in a reductive manner. In years with suitable weather conditions, there are also Trockenbeerenauslese wines. We also produce bottle-fermented sparkling wines and pomace brandy from Pinot Noir.
