1999 Spätburgunder Spätlese trocken, Pfalz, Germany

Deep purple to ruby red, only slightly lighter at the rim. Firm notes of herbs, aromas of cherries as well as red and black berries. Clean, juicy fruit, very fine-grained, still quite present and slightly astringent tannins, attractive acidity, powerful yet cool and straightforward in style, smoky and spicy oak notes in the background, persistent, long finish with fruit and smoky notes. Has potential.
