Editor note: Nose still restless, light volatile and lactic notes, prominent vegetal and earthy notes, very restrained yellow fruit, yellow spice, delicate floral notes, earthy and mineral notes. Firm and basically dry on the palate, nutty, yeasty and vegetal notes, floral traces, fairly prominent acidity, slightly astringent tannins, some oak in the background, light bitter touch, hint of tobacco, firm grip, earthy and salty mineral notes, some depth, still largely undeveloped and still slightly chunky, full-bodied, bitter nuts in the background, very good, firm finish.

The production area is located in the federal state of Hessen in Germany. The vineyards cover 3,211 hectares of vine area starting at the lower Main river east of Wiesbaden and extending about 50 kilometres along the right bank of the Rhine to Lorch north of Rüdesheim. The "Rheingau Riesling Route" wine route runs along the right bank of the Rhine from Lorch to Hochheim. Emperor Charlemagne (742-814) allegedly had the first vineyard planted near today's Johannisberg Castle.
