The winery "Achim Ritter und Edler von Oetinger" is located in the municipality of Erbach in the German wine-growing region of Rheingau. The wine-growing tradition of the von Oetinger family in Erbach dates back to 1828. The foundation stone of today's business was laid in 1966 by Robert von Oetinger. Today, the family business is run by the third generation, Achim von Oetinger. The vineyards cover 7.5 hectares in the single vineyards Hohenrain, Marcobrunn, Michelmark, Siegelsberg and Steinmorgen (Erbach), as well as Sandgrub (Kiedrich). The vineyards are 90% planted with Riesling, the rest with Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.
Management is guided by the company motto "A great wine is not made, a great wine grows in the vineyard". Environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised with, for example, cover crop and the exclusive use of natural fertiliser. Important quality criteria in the vineyard include targeted pruning, yield reduction, defoliation of the vines and exclusively selective manual harvesting. For the top wines individual berries are selected. This ensures that only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are processed.
The work in the cellar is carried out according to non-invasive principles through "controlled idleness". A controlled, cool fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks produces white wines with pronounced fruit aromas. The premium wines from the VDP-classified sites are marketed under the -M- Collection, which are produced according to the criteria of the Erste Gewächs. In years with suitable weather conditions, Trockenbeerenauslesen and ice wines are also pressed. Around 50,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines, brandies and vinegars are also produced. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates).
