The "Rüdesheimer Sektkellerei OHLIG GmbH und Co. KG" is located in the municipality of Rüdesheim in the German wine-growing region of
Rheingau. The company was founded in 1919 by Anton Ohlig under the name "Rheingauer Schaumweinkellerei Ohlig & Co". In the 1950s, the descendants of the founder joined forces with the Kloss family, who had been expropriated in the East. Now they also jointly produced and distributed the sparkling wines of the brands "Kloss & Foerster" and, until the fall of communism in 1989, "
Rotkäppchen" in Rüdesheim. Today, the company is owned by the fourth generation of the family. Markus Jost is the managing director, Karlheinz Bubeck is the technical manager and Thomas Hirsch is the cellar master. The wide range of products is marketed under the label "Ohlig Sekt". Only grapes of the highest quality are used for the base wines in order to create sparkling wines of consistent character and high quality every year
The sparkling wines of the "Private Series" are classic cuvées from the best wine-growing regions of France, Italy and Spain. The "ANTON OHLIG" edition, produced using the classic bottle fermentation method and limited in production quantity, includes top products from the two Rheingau single vineyard sites
Marcobrunn (Erbach) and
Wisselbrunnen (Hattenheim). The basic wines from the Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay varieties are blended into vintage and site sparkling wines. In the hundred-year-old vaulted cellar, the cuvée-fermented sparkling wines mature on the yeast for at least six months, the bottle-fermented sparkling wines for at least nine months. After
remuage (riddling), they are always freshly
disgorged for delivery or marketing. Fresh, fruity sparkling wines are also produced. In addition, the sparkling of wines is offered, which is also used by many winegrowers.
