The "Riesling-Weingut Alfons Stoffel" is located in the municipality of Leiwen (Bernkastel area) in the German Mosel
wine growing region. It was taken over by Alfons Stoffel in the early 1970s. Since 1999 the 4-star guesthouse "St. Maximin" with four holiday apartments has been connected. The vineyards cover four hectares of vineyards in the sites Bruderschaft
(Köwerich), as well as Klostergarten and Laurentiuslay
(Leiwen). They are 95% planted with Riesling and some Pinot Blanc. In the vineyard we consistently practice environmentally friendly viticulture close to nature. After the longest possible vegetation phase, selective harvesting and gentle pressing, slow, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the aromas. This is followed by an individual maturation on the fine yeasts in partly traditional wooden barrels. In years with suitable weather conditions, an ice wine is also pressed. A bottle-fermented Riesling sparkling wine is also produced. Since March 2010, the winery and guest house have been a certified quality operation under the Moselle umbrella brand.
