The winery "König Johann Weingut im Saartal" is located in the municipality of Konz-Filzen (Saar area) just outside the city of Trier in the German Moselle wine growing region. It is managed by the third generation of the Schnur-Schmitt family. The administrator is Michael Schnur-Schmitt, the cellar master is son Dennis Schmitt. A guesthouse and an ostrich farm are attached. The vineyards comprise 11 hectares of vineyards in the individual locations Steinberger, Unterberg and Urbelt (Filzen), as well as König-Johann-Berg (Serrig). They are mainly planted with Riesling, as well as smaller stocks of Kerner and Regent. The vines, some of which are very old, are cultivated in a natural and sustainable way. The extensive product range comprises the three lines Estate Wines (classic tangy and light Saar wines), Local Wines (hand-picked wines from individual vineyards) and From Best Sites (hand-selected wines from the König-Johann-Berg site and selected wines from the Filzen sites). The wines are fermented spontaneously and vinified gently. They are matured in stainless steel, the premium wines additionally in halves. The winery is a member of the association Generation Riesling.
