2018 Südtirol / Alto Adige DOC Merlot Riserva "Brenntal", Alto Adige, Italy

Firm, quite deep, somewhat smoky, iodiney and fleshy-animalic aroma of ripe black berries with tobacco and slightly nutty wood spice, a hint of juniper and black olives. Firm, tart and juicy dark fruit, bitter chocolate and a little sooty wood, present, fine tannins, lots of power, good persistence, minty hints, a little salt in the background, firm structure, has polish, a hint of liquorice, still undeveloped, very good, firm, tart and juicy finish with bite and peppery notes.
