2001 Chateauneuf-du-Pape AOC Alexis Establet, Rhône, France

Restrained nose, smoky and tarry notes, noticeable oak, subdued dried fruit and red berries. Warm in the mouth, harmonious in spite of the high alcohol, sweetish berry fruit with notes of malt and currants, quite appealing, and shows off good use of wood, integrated ripe tannins, chocolate and toast at the end, good long finish.
