Description to P.D.O. Plagies Melitona (O.P.A.P.) / Πλαγιές Μελίτωνα
Appellation (Greek: Playies Melitona, English: Slopes of Meliton) on the Sithonia peninsula (middle finger of Chalkidike) in the Greek region of Macedonia. The vineyards cover 475 hectares of vines and are terraced along the Aegean coast on the western slopes of the eponymous mountain Meliton (811 metres). The area was replanted in the 1960s with the advice of oenologist Émile Peynaud (1912-2004) based on scientific findings. The POP area is for red wine from the Limnio, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varieties, as well as for white wine from the Athiri Aspro, Assyrtiko and Roditis varieties. The area is the sole property of Domaine Carras.
