2015 Lahr Kirchgasse Spätburgunder Grosses Gewächs trocken, Baden, Germany

A somewhat matured, nutty-woody, tobacco-like and slightly leathery scent of ripe predominantly dark berries with dried floral, slightly malty, fatty and peppery notes. Herb-juicy, somewhat developed, ripe dark fruit with nutty, slightly roasted and malty aromas, crumbly-sandy tannins, a certain warmth and power, good sustainability, dried mushrooms and bacon in the background, earthy tones, a hint of tar, very good, quite firm finish with juice and spice. No longer quite in the form of its youth, but still convincing.

Editor note: Deep and quite complex, slightly spicy-woody, also underwoody nose, red berries and cherries, notes reminiscent of laurel and hops, some pepper, juniper, dried flowers and prominent mineral notes. Ripe, firmly formed, juicy fruit with noticeable spicy oak, yeasty notes, some dry herbs and mushrooms, firm, yet mature tannins, dense and persistent on the palate, slightly smoky, peppery nuances and juniper, prominent, salty mineral notes, still young, good depth , some cloves, very good, multi-layered finish with ripe juice, spicy aromas and mineral notes.
