2000 Großkarlbach Burgweg Spätburgunder trocken ***, Pfalz, Germany

Roasted, balsamic aromas, ripe red berries and plums, with a mineral note. Concentrated and juicy on the palate, still strongly dominated by oak, smoky, with sandy, dry tannins, powerful but not heavy body, excellent structure, persistent, rounded, significant mineral notes in the background, excellent length. Needs time to mature, but will probably never fully absorb the amount of oak used. The quality of the grape material is sufficient to warrant a rating well above 90 points.
