2016 Herxheim Honigsack Spätburgunder Réserve trocken, Pfalz, Germany

Tart, delicately smoky and quite clearly vegetal aroma of mixed berries with a hint of plums and cherries, floral nuances, some bacon and hints of pomegranate. Ripe, quite juicy fruit, rather light, slightly chocolaty and smoky wood, fine sandy tannin, good substance and persistence, has bite, mineral and smoky tones, a hint of herbs, peppery traces, again clearly vegetal tones, tends with air a bit towards the rustic, very good, quite tight finish.

Editor note: Clear, polished, fairly deep nose, ripe red and a few black berries, elegant spicy oak, hint of tobacco, dried floral traces, light nutty and herbaceous notes, bell peppers and prominent mineral notes. Fairly firm, tart, youthful fruit on the palate, moderate oak, dried vegetal and herbaceous notes, delicate floral and light smoky notes, fine tannins, light acid bite, some depth, salty mineral notes in the background, still very young, some bite and spicy oak on a very good, firm, tart, juicy, elegantly spicy finish.
