The winery is located in the municipality of Eichstetten (Kaiserstuhl area) in the German Baden wine region. It was founded in 1851 by Friedrich Kiefer. In 2008 the business was taken over by Helen and Martin Schmidt (oenologist); Markus Weishaar is responsible as cellar master. Grapes from an affiliated producer group and from our own stock are processed. The total area is 145 hectares. The own vineyards comprise 12 hectares of vineyards in the Herrenbuck (Eichstetten) area. The red wine variety Spätburgunder (about 40%), as well as the white wine varieties Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Scheurebe, Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc are processed

We practice environmentally friendly viticulture close to nature through permanent greening with clover, vetches and beans, as well as promoting beneficial insects such as predatory mites, ladybirds and lacewings by sowing wild herbs. Quality criteria are reduced yields through short pruning, defoliation, consistent thinning out and selective manual harvesting. The production of organic wine from organic viticulture is about 10%

The white wines are fermented slowly and cool after intensive must pre-clarification, mainly by sedimentation, and then matured on the and gently filtered. The red wines from the Herrenbuck site are fermented on the mash and mature for a long time in large wooden barrels and sometimes also in barriques. Among the premium wines are Spätburgunder Innovation, Spätburgunder Dreistern, Sauvignon Blanc aged in barrique and Grauburgunder Dreistern. Sparkling wines and bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced. The annual production is 1.25 million bottles. The winery is a member of the association Generation Riesling.
