The winery is located in the municipality of Rhodt unter Rietburg (Südliche Weinstraße area) in the German wine-growing region of
Pfalz. The traditional Kastanienhof has been family-owned since 1780. Today, the farm is run by Karl-Heinz and son Knut Fader, supported by their wives Hedwig and Heike. The vineyards cover 18 hectares in the single vineyard sites
Münzberg (Godramstein), as well as Klosterpfad, Rosengarten and
Schlossberg (Rhodt). Grapes from a further three hectares are purchased from contract winegrowers. The white wine varieties Riesling (mainly in the Schlossberg), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Auxerrois, Muscat and Gewürztraminer, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Blauer Portugieser, Dornfelder, St. Laurent and Merlot are cultivated and processed
Management is close to nature and environmentally friendly. This includes organic
fertilisation, flowering
cover crop and intensive
foliage management with the goal of intact soils. During the harvest,
physiologically ripe, healthy grapes are important. It is processed gently with good must pre-clarification, controlled fermentation and long storage on the
fine yeast. The white estate wines are matured fresh and fruity in steel tanks, the premium wines in 600-litre wooden barrels or in barriques. After
maceration, the red wines mature for 6 to 18 months in 600-litre wooden barrels or, in the case of the premium wines, in barrique. The premium wines are Riesling Spätlese trocken Buntsandstein Alte Reben, Grauer Burgunder Spätlese trocken Alte Reben and Cabernet Sauvignon Klosterpfad
